‘Green’ Standards Set for Paper Products

As part of its ongoing effort to implement green best practices, the College has developed new specifications for its purchase of “Green Seal Certified” paper towels and toilet tissue. The process to make these products is 100% recycled, meaning that all materials are recovered after the papermaking process and nothing is discarded.

Under the new specifications, toilet tissue must contain a minimum of 20% post-consumer wastepaper content, and paper towels must contain a minimum of 40% post-consumer wastepaper content. The products must be unbleached, and both the process and products must be chlorine free.

The College is also transitioning to the use of greener cleaning products as existing supplies are depleted, and a new liquid hand cleaner is already in use. The hand cleaner is Green Seal Certified based on its reduced human and aquatic toxicity, reduced smog production and lack of antimicrobial agents.
