College Earns GVF’s Environmental Leadership Award

The Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association (GVF) presented its 2011 Environmental Leadership Award to Montgomery County Community College on May 11 during the organization’s annual meeting. The award recognizes the College’s investment in the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC).

The College partners with GVF in the facilitation of the campus shuttle program, which reduces vehicle usage by up to 3,900 miles daily if the van operates each trip at full capacity. During the spring 2011 semester, the shuttle served 5,180 riders, reducing the College’s transportation carbon emissions by 20 metic tons.

The College has opted to continue operating the shuttle for the fall 2011 semester. The 14-passanger vehicle is equipped with Wi-Fi and is free of charge to students.

  1. The couple times that I used this last year it was almost empty. I am curious as to the real numbers that this program’s generated so far.
